In the last financial year 2080/81, around 31.5 billion rupees were taken out of the country only on the import of smartphones, headphones and mobile chargers. According to last year's foreign trade data published by the Customs Department, among the items most imported by Nepal, after petroleum products and iron products, smartphone ranks third.
In the last year, only 28 billion 66 crore 62 lakh 35 thousand rupees were spent on smartphone imports. During this period, 18 lakh 39 thousand 35 sets of smartphones have entered Nepal.
It is also seen from the department's data that the government has collected customs revenue equal to five billion 339 million rupees from the import of smartphones. Last year, 1,758,690 sets of telephones worth 1 billion 429 million 85 thousand rupees were imported.
Similarly, only 659.3 million 28 thousand rupees have been exported in the import of headphones. In one year, the government has collected 21 million nine lakh 23 thousand customs revenue while importing 29 lakh 96 thousand 229 headphones.
Last year, 4,382,839 chargers worth 507,163,000 were imported.
Only 155.57 million 10 thousand revenue has been collected from charger import. Last year, 239,669 smartwatches worth 355,148,000 rupees were imported.
